Student Health Plan

For Domestic Students

( U.S. Citizen and Permanent Resident)

Insurance Requirements

Willamette University requires that all degree seeking half time or more domestic students carry medical insurance coverage comparable to that offered through the school's comprehensive Student Health Insurance Plan. You will automatically be enrolled in the Aetna Student Health Insurance Plan and charged through our student accounts department at the beginning of the fall and spring semester. Students with other medical insurance that meets the criteria of comparable coverage may submit an online waiver request each academic year in the fall. The deadline to submit that online waiver for the 12-13 school year is October 1, 2012 at 5:00 p.m. There will be opportunity for new incoming students spring semester ( not here fall semester)  to waive from the Willamette plan between December 10, 2012 and March 1, 2013 at 5:00 p.m. New  spring half time or more students who wish to waive need to complete the Waiver Application form and return to Bishop Wellness Center, Student Insurance Services on campus by the March 1, 2013 deadline.

Note:  Students who are graduating, drop below half time,  or not continuing their course studies paying tuition to Willamette Spring 2013 semester will no longer be eligible for the Willamette student insurance plan spring semester. Coverage will terminate January 6, 2013 for students not continuing or dropping below half time.

To Waive/Decline

Deadline: October 1, 2012 (5 pm)

Spring Deadline: March 1, 2013 (5pm)

( Applies to new incoming half time or more students or students who were gone Fall but returning for Spring semester only)

If you already have an insurance plan and do not wish to be automatically enrolled in the Student Health Insurance Plan, please refer to the link in left navigation regarding how to waive it.

If You Do Not Have Insurance

If you do not have health insurance or your coverage does not meet the criteria for comparable coverage to the WU plan no action is required. You will be automatically enrolled in the Willamette plan each semester you are eligible, and your student account will be charged. Students can visit the Aetna site to print a temporary ID card on or after August 1, 2012. Go to Willamette page and on left navigation select print card. Permanent ID cards will be mailed after the waiver deadline of October 1, 2012. Note: New Spring enrolled students should contact Student Insurance Services at Willamette to have their Aetna plan activated as soon as possible. The formal enrollment roster is not submitted to Aetna until after the waiver deadline. Contact bishop-insurance@willamette.edu or call 503-370-6972 to get your plan activated so you can print a card. You will have coverage beginning January 7, 2013- July 31, 2013.

Dependent Insurance

Students with dependents may elect to provide them insurance coverage as well. The dependent insurance can be purchased directly through the Aetna website between July 16, 2012 and October 1, 2012.  Select "Medical Plan: Domestic Supplemental and Dependent" and once on that page within the price table you will find a link to Enroll in the plan.

Supplemental Plan- Buy up Option

Students that are enrolled in the base WU Student Health Insurance Plan may voluntarily enroll in the Supplemental Plan to receive a combined maximum of $500,000 per policy year. The cost for the buy up to $500,000 per policy year is $110.00. Students wishing to enroll in the Supplemental Plan will purchase this add on directly through Aetna. Go to Aetna Student Health and select "Medical Plan: Domestic Supplemental and Dependent" and once on that page within the price table for supplemental you will find a link to Enroll in the plan. Students must be enrolled by the enrollment deadline of October 1, 2012.
