Insurance Requirements

Willamette University requires that all degree seeking half time or more domestic students carry medical insurance coverage comparable to that offered through the school's comprehensive Student Health Insurance Plan. You will automatically be enrolled in the Aetna Student Health Insurance Plan and charged through our student accounts department at the beginning of the fall and spring semester. Students with other medical insurance that meets the criteria of comparable coverage may submit an online waiver request each academic year. The deadline to submit that online waiver for the 13-14 school year is September 16, 2013 at 5:00 p.m.

Note: Students who are graduating, drop below half time, or not continuing their course studies paying tuition to Willamette Spring 2014 semester will no longer be eligible for the Willamette student insurance plan spring semester. Coverage will terminate January 5, 2014 for students not continuing or dropping below half time.

To Waive/Decline

Fall Deadline: September 16, 2013 (5pm)

If you already have an insurance plan and do not wish to be automatically enrolled in the Student Health Insurance Plan, please refer to the link in left navigation regarding how to waive it.

Note: Students incoming FALL semester will only be able to waive in the Fall prior to September 16, 2013 for the entire year. New incoming Spring semester students will be able to submit a waiver between December 2, 2013 and February 3, 2014. Students who attend Fall semester and graduate or withdraw prior to February 3, 2014 will not be eligible for coverage Spring 2014.

If You Do Not Have Insurance

If you do not have health insurance or your coverage does not meet the criteria for comparable coverage to the WU plan no action is required. You will be automatically enrolled in the Willamette plan each semester you are eligible, and your student account will be charged. Students can visit the Aetna site to print a temporary ID card on or after August 1, 2013. Go to Willamette page and on left navigation select print card. Permanent ID cards will be mailed after the waiver deadline of September 16, 2013. Dependent Insurance

Students with dependents may elect to provide them insurance coverage as well. The dependent insurance can be purchased directly through the Aetna website between July 22, 2013 and September 16, 2013. 

How to add Dependent Insurance: 

  • Go to Aetna Student Health website
  • In the purple box type in Willamette University
  • On the right side click on Enroll: Domestic Dependent
