How to Apply
Willamette University students are selected on a highly competitive basis to participate in ISA-CGC Summer Research Sessions while earning two academic credits for their work. During the Summer 2010 program in Senegal, West Africa, students will serve as Research Assistants on a National Science Foundation funded, multi-sited ethnographic research project from May 18th-July 16th 2010.
Prior to departing for Senegal, students will be trained in basic ethnographic research methods and will be introduced to the global challenge of Diasporas for Development. They will also begin cultural and language instruction. While in Senegal each student will be paired with a Senegalese graduate student with whom they will conduct intensive ethnographic research throughout the country. Students will be fully immersed in Senegalese culture. They will live within Senegalese families, eat Senegalese foods, and conduct research in rural Senegalese communities.
Students from all academic disciplines from the Willamette University College of Liberal Arts are encouraged to apply.
