Overview
Christchurch is the largest city on the South Island of New Zealand. It is a coastal city, situated midway down the South Island's east coast, and located close to both mountains and the sea. WU students will study at the University of Canterbury, New Zealand’s second oldest university, which has a student body of approximately 12,000.
Academics
There are a wide variety of courses available at the University of Canterbury. Most majors are recommended for this program. More course information is found on the University of Canterbury's website. The university has a very strong Maori and Indigenous Studies Department and any students interested in studying the Maori culture are strongly encouraged to consider Christchurch.
Housing
Students will live in Ilam Village, which is university housing located nearby. These apartment style accommodations are just five minutes from lecture halls and other campus facilities and offer amenities such as fully equipped kitchens and communal recreational space. Dates
The Christchurch program is available during either Fall or Spring semesters. The Fall semester starts in the beginning of July and ends mid November, Spring semester starts mid February and ends late June.
Cost
Willamette tuition only. The cost of room and board is not paid to Willamette University. Students will pay the University of Canterbury directly for accommodation. Food will be purchased on an individual basis. For more accomodation information read the Housing section above and visit the Ilam Village page on the UC website. The the NZ mandatory insurance is included in the cost paid to Willamette University.
