Granada, Spain

Overview

Home to the beautiful Alhambra and close to the Sierra Nevada mountains and the Mediterranean Sea, Granada provides a small town, yet cosmopolitan atmosphere. The Granada program is a Willamette University program, designed to support the Independent Liberal Arts Colleges Abroad (ILACA) Consortium: Gonzaga University, Pacific Lutheran University, the University of Portland, the University of Puget Sound and Willamette University. A professor from one of the ILACA schools will teach a course during the spring semester. Excursions are planned by the resident site director and include local tours in Granada, traveling to Madrid, Toledo, Segovia and others. Students also have access to the Casa de Porras, a cultural center at the Universidad de Granada where they can participate in art, exercise and/or culture workshops. Academics

Courses are taken at the University of Granada’s modern language center: El Centro de Lenguas Modernas (CLM). Through its modern facilities and experienced professors the CLM provides Spanish language courses for visiting students from around the world. Each semester begins with a comprehensive orientation program followed by a month long intensive Spanish language course (Intensivo). After the Intensivo students will choose from a variety of topics courses depending on language ability. See the WU Granada website for more information.

Housing

Students will live with host families or Señoras (host-mothers), usually within walking distance of the CLM. The students either live individually or in pairs with a family.

Dates

The Granada program is available during the Fall and Spring semester. The fall program starts early September and ends mid-December, the spring semester starts at the beginning of January and concludes at the end of May.

Cost

Willamette tuition and a program fee equivalent of Willamette's Room and Board Plan B. The program fee includes room and board, excursions, medical insurance, on-site support, local transportation pass, a subsidized workshop at Casa de Porras, and most course materials.
