THIS PROGRAM IS NOT AVAILABLE FOR THE 2010-2011 STUDY ABROAD CYCLE.
Because this is an exchange program, there must be equal numbers of students coming from Macquarie as W.U. is sending. They are unable to send any students at this time and, therefore, we cannot send any in the upcoming year. Do not list Macquarie as a preference on your 2010-2011 Study Abroad Application.
Please contact an OIE Advisor for possible alternatives.
Macquarie University, located about 35 minutes from Sydney, boasts a great global academic reputation. With over 30,000 students and 8,000 international students, students will find a wide variety of academic options. The Macquarie program is a Focused ISEP Exchange between WU and Macquarie; this means that although it is an ISEP program, the universities exchange students directly. Willamette students attending Macquarie are considered "Exchange" students, as opposed to "ISEP-Direct", or "Study Abroad" students.
All majors are recommended including Contemporary Music, Biology, and Chemistry. Macquarie does not have Art or Art History courses. Please read the ISEP Academic Notes first and then search for units through Study Subjects (course information). Internships for credit are also available.
Students will live in fully-furnished apartments near campus in either single or shared rooms where they will cook their own meals. Students receive a stipend in the form of gift cards to purchase food at a nearby grocery store.
The Macquarie program is available during the fall or spring semester. The southern hemisphere’s first semester (WU’s spring semester) starts in the beginning of March and ends early July. Macquarie’s second semester (WU’s fall semester) begins in late July and ends at the beginning of December.
Willamette Tuition plus a program fee equivalent to Willamette’s Room and Board plan B; the program fee includes housing, meal stipend, onsite support and exchange student benefits. All visiting students in Australia are required to purchase Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) from Worldcare. Full coverage is approximately $185 Australian dollars for one semester. ISEP requires that all students studying in Australia also have the MEDEX supplemental policy (MER-Medical Evacuation Repatriation) that provides these services at a cost of $7 per month (see Exceptions and Important Notes for health insurance on ISEP's website.)
Students interested in an International Career or would like more international experience should investigate Macquarie’s Global Leadership Program. Extra fees may be associated with this program.
