Language in Motion

Do you like kids?

Would you like to share your study abroad experiences with middle and high school students?

Are you thinking of being a teacher?

Want to have some fun sharing language and culture?

If so, volunteer for a new program to share language and culture in the public schools of Salem. Join “Language in Motion.”

Language in Motion is a new program for Willamette University. Originally developed at Juniata College in Pennsylvania, the purpose is to share language and culture in the public schools. This program is unique because it is comprised of both U.S. students who have studied abroad and international students and language assistants studying at WU.

  • When possible, study abroad returnees could be paired with someone from the country where they studied.
  • Students can also do presentations along with friends who also studied where they studied.
  • More than one person from a specific country can also become a team for presentations.
  • If students went to or themselves come from a non-English speaking country, short language lessons can also be part of the presentation to classes.

We will be working with schools in Salem that are close to WU. The teachers who will welcome us into their classrooms will do a mini training early in the semester for all interested volunteers.
