As you arrive on campus, you will be given more details about the international student orientation meeting. The orientation meeting will be focusing on letting you get to know campus, Salem, and life and culture in general in the United States. There are many practical matters to discuss regarding immigration and other visa information, insurance, healthcare etc. Other topics to be addressed include subjects like:

  • Academics at Willamette
  • Immigration status
  • Insurance
  • Health Care
  • Safety in Salem
  • Identification and social security numbers
  • Bank accounts
  • Employment options
  • What is intercultural competency?

We will assist you in taking care of these things. The meeting will also give you an opportunity to get to know other international students through fun, games, and parties. The orientation will cover two and a half days, with time spent both on and off campus. All of this practical information will be mixed with fun games, excursions to downtown and a trip to the Oregon Coast (for fall semester undergraduate students only).

After the international student orientation, there will also be an orientation for your respective places of education (the law students at the law school, the business and management students at Atkinson, etc.). During this week there will be opportunities to go on little trips, and see other places, and get to know campus, Salem and your U.S. American classmates a little better.
