Monday, January 15, 9 a.m.-1 p.m.: University Center and 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m., 5-7 p.m.: Goudy Dining Commons
Celebrate Dr. King's national holiday and birthday with an opportunity to show your support by signing the Willamette University Pledge. This pledge encourages people to make a personal commitment to adhere to a common belief that all individuals, including those in the majority and those in the minority, are valued. People will be asked to be individually as well as corporately responsible and to take action.
Rivers of Change: The Story of Five Unheralded Women in Montgomery and Their Struggle for Justice and Dignity.
Monday, January 15, 7 p.m.: Hudson Hall- Mary Stuart Rogers Music Center
Rivers of Change is a film to herald the untold stories of women who fought discrimination and segregation in the United States of America and how their collective efforts changed a nation and impacted the world. It is the story of a 102 year legal battle that culminated in Montgomery, Alabama in 1956 when their actions brought an end to segregated seating on intra-city buses and the Montgomery Bus Boycott. Their action signaled the beginning of the modern day Black Civil Rights Movement, and ultimately ensured the inalienable rights of all Americans. The documentary�s Producer/Writer/Director; William Dickerson-Waheed will lead a discussion about Social Activism after the screening. Open to the Public.

Lunch and showing of segments of the Rivers of Change: The Story of Five Unheralded Women in Montgomery and Their Struggle for Justice and Dignity. William Dickerson-Waheed will show clips of his film and lead a discussion about Social Activism and the role of citizens as activists. Luncheon is free. Participate in an opportunity to act on one of Dr. King�s philosophies; Service to Community. Sites include: Oregon Peace Works, HOME Teen Shelter, Lifeline AIDS Project, Oregon State Library, Bush House Museum, YMAM Ropes Challenge Course, Marion Polk Food Share, Salvation Army, Willamette Valley Hospice and Salem Four Square. MLK Celebration
Friday, January 19th, 7 p.m. (Doors open at 6 p.m.) Smith Auditorium
Featuring the South African, Grammy award winning a cappella group Ladysmith Black Mambazo. Olympia Vernon, the Hallie Brown Ford Chair of Willamette University will give a Community Welcome. Tickets available for WU Faculty, Staff and Students beginning January 8th. The first ticket is free, each additional (up to 4 total) are $5. Tickets for the General Public are available beginning at 5pm on January 17th at the Putnam University Center. Tickets are $5 each (up to 4 total). Contact (503) 370-6265 for ticket information.
