* Delta Gamma dues are higher (compared to the other two chapters) during the new member period because one-time costs are in a lump sum instead of distributed over the course of a three-year membership period.
[back to top]2. What do the dues pay for?
Like any organization, there are bills to pay and costs to membership. Dues are charged every semester of membership and are comprised of both local and national fees. Dues cover such items as chapter events, leadership conferences and national dues. New member dues are more expensive because they include several one-time fees, (e.g., sorority badge, lifetime membership fee).
[back to top]3. What are the benefits of joining a sorority?
Sororities are the largest organized group of women at Willamette University. In addition to their sorority commitments, the women are active participants in campus life, serving as presidents, team captains, or leaders in several clubs, teams and organizations.
Sororites support the academic mission of the University by promoting personal scholarship and goal setting. The chapters provide opportunities for individual growth, practicing leadership skills and developing friendships that last beyond Willamette. Joining a sorority can be a life-changing experience.
[back to top]4. What is the room and board situation for sorority women?
The sororites reside in University owned facilities called chapter houses, where members are expected to live and eat their meals. Each chapter house is staffed by a live-in house director. The room and board cost for a sorority is the same as living in a resdience hall and purchasing a "B" meal plan. Sorority chapter houses are alcohol and substance free communities.
[back to top]5. What are the chapter houses like?
Each sorority house has a different floor plan and room configuration. Alpha Chi Omega offers mostly four person rooms, while Delta Gamma and Pi Beta Phi offer mostly double rooms. All houses have meeting rooms and study areas. During recruitment your student will tour the houses and learn more about each living arrangement.
