7:30 p.m.Theatre Production: "SMASH" by Jeffrey Hatcher — A comedy of manners directed by Susan Coromel
M. Lee Pelton Theatre
Hilarious fun; roller skates and bicycles, love triangles and economics! "SMASH", set in a British women’s college, romps its way through explorations of love, capitalism and the messiness of human nature. This adaptation of Shaw’s comic novel, An Unsocial Socialist, is a story about a young man with a dreadful moral dilemma. 5–8 p.m.The Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde Gallery Opening Events: Reception and Tribal Blessing
Hallie Ford Museum of Art, 700 State Street
The weekend of October 14–15 marks the grand re-opening of the Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde Gallery, which houses the Hallie Ford Museum of Art’s permanent collection of Native American art. The newly reconfigured gallery focuses on the dynamic relationship that exists between historic and contemporary Native American art and will feature a new layout, new display cases, new lighting, a new color scheme and a new storyline. A blessing will be conducted by Native American artists at 6 p.m.

10-11:30 p.m.Guess the Straight Person

In honor of National Coming-Out Day, October 11, Angles (Willamette’s Gay-Straight Alliance) presents their most popular event, “Guess the Straight Person.”  A panel of 10–15 self-identified gay, lesbian, bi-sexual and/or transgendered students answer questions from the audience to break down apparent stereotypes. At the end, the audience is asked to distinguish which member(s) of the panel is/are actually straight. Everyone on campus is invited.

Celebrate the opening of Men’s and Women’s Basketball season with Head Coaches Kip Ioane and Anne Lapray as they debut the 2011–12 teams. Throughout the night fans will be incorporated into activities such as eating contests, relays, shooting games and much more!

Enjoy a delicious brunch served in Goudy Commons. To ensure seating for everyone and to eliminate long lines, brunch will be served during two seating times. You must indicate one of these seating times when you order tickets. Tickets are required for everyone attending, including any Willamette student without a board meal plan. While you wait in line, don’t miss the opportunity to have your family photo taken by a professional photographer.

1-4:30 p.m.Hike at Silver Falls State Park
The bus will depart from the Hatfield Fountain at 1 p.m., please arrive by 12:45 p.m. to check-in.
Hikers will embark on a guided hike of the Lower South Falls area. There are two options for participants, a 2.8 mile hike or a 0.7 mile hike. Both options offer great views and photo opportunities. A stainless steel Family Weekend water bottle is included for each participant on this trip.

1-5 p.m.Shopping Trip to Woodburn Company Stores
The bus will depart from the Hatfield Fountain at 1 p.m., please arrive by 12:45 p.m. to check-in.
Join us on a trip to the Woodburn Outlet Mall! Shop without sales tax, and stock up on clothes and supplies for a Pacific Northwest winter. A Family Weekend reusable tote bag and an exclusive coupon booklet are included for each participant on this trip.

Take a short scenic drive and come join Willamette’s Rugby teams as they play Western Oregon University. Kickoff for the men’s game is at 2 p.m. with the women’s to follow. (Note the time change)

Whether it is his off kilter observations, knack for spontaneous crowd interaction or unusual physical comedy, Los Angeles comic Tom Clark’s act has a little something for everyone. Clark has been seen on CBS’s “Late Late Show,” NBC’s “Last Comic Standing,” Comedy Central’s “Premium Blend” as well as the “Bob & Tom Radio Show.” His show is not to be missed! Every effort has been made to find a quality performer appropriate for the diverse ages and interests of our Family Weekend guests. Please keep in mind, however, that the performance is geared toward a mature audience.

Sunday, October 16

This service will be led by University Chaplain Charlie Wallace and Associate Chaplain Karen Wood and will feature student readers. While open to all, the approach is “progressive Christian” —  in line with Willamette’s heritage and in tune with current spiritual, social and political perspectives.

11 a.m.Guided Tour of Sorority Houses

A member of Panhellenic Council will lead a tour through all three sorority chapter houses and answer questions about sorority life at Willamette. This is an opportunity to talk first hand with sorority women about living in a chapter house and what it is like to be a member of a sorority at Willamette.
11:15 a.m.-3:30 p.m.Winery Tours and Tastings
The bus will depart from the Hatfield Fountain at 11:15 a.m. Please arrive by 11 a.m. to check in. The bus will return to the Fountain no later than 3:30 p.m.
Enjoy the bounty of the Willamette Valley’s wine selection. We will start the day with a scenic drive to St. Innocent Winery, home to some of Oregon’s best Pinot Noir. After, we will continue to Willamette Valley Vineyards, regularly rated one of the best vineyards in Oregon, for a tour of the vineyard, tasting and light refreshments. Alcohol will only be served to those 21 and older.
