Mid Year Orientation Schedule

January 13-15, 2012 (with supplemental programs on January 17, 19, and 20th)

This schedule is not complete and is subject to change. The most current schedule will be available in students' orientation packets upon their arrival to campus on January 13.

Friday, January 13
8:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m.Service Center Open
Doney Hall
If you’d like to get an early start to the day, stop by to get your ID card and room key. Not an early bird? No problem! You’ll have time to get your ID card and room key and move in at 10:30 a.m. See below.
9:00 a.m.Willamette University Welcome

Pick up your orientation packet. While you’re there, be sure to visit the campus resource tables to learn more about the services available to you. Your orientation packet will include a complete schedule and campus resource information.
10:30 – 11:30 a.m.Settling In
Residence Halls
If you haven't already done so, start at the Service Center (in Doney Hall) to pick up your room key and get your ID card. Then, look for Move-In Crew members in the bright yellow t-shirts to help you carry your stuff into your new room. Use any remaining time to complete items on the Settling In Checklist, located in your orientation packet.

Learn about an essential resource at Willamette, the Writing Center. Then, meet your advisor and get to know him or her over lunch.

Check your orientation packet for the individual appointment time with your advisor.
3:00 p.m.Library and Technology Overview

4:00 p.m.Face-to-Face Campus Tours
Meet your group leader on the 1st floor of Putnam University Center
Groups will travel around campus to learn where things are and who goes where. Be sure to bring a copy of your academic schedule so the orientation leaders can help you find where your classes are located.
6:00 p.m.Community Dinner
Montag Den
Don’t miss this opportunity to meet and get to know the orientation leaders and mentors as well as members of the residence life study staff as you share a meal share a meal in one of Willamette’s student hang outs.
Saturday, January 14
9:00 - 11:30 a.m.International Student Orientation (for international students)
Office of International Education - Matthews Hall
Required for all international exchange students.
11:00 a.m.Small group session (for first year and transfer students)
See your Orientation leaders for location
Meet with your leaders and mentors to get an overview of important information and have your questions answered.
11:30 a.m.Compass Card and Campus Safety Overview
Matthews Hall
Learn about the one-card system at Willamette as well as how to stay safe on campus and in Salem.
12:00 noonLunch
Office of International Education - Matthews Hall
The Office of International Education welcomes you for lunch in their office space. Learn more about study abroad opportunities and/or how to make the most of your Willamette experience as an international student.
1:00 p.m.Salem Tour and Shopping Trip
Meet at the Hatfield Fountain
Need food, school supplies, or stuff for your room? Let current students show you all the best places to shop and hang out in Salem.
5:00 p.m.Dinner and Activity
Meet at the Hatfield Fountain
Join your orientation leaders for a fun-filled night of food and games at a local pizza parlor.
Sunday, January 15
10:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.Campus Recreation Activity and Lunch
Meet in the lobby of Sparks Center
Take advantage of this opportunity to meet current students, learn more about the Intramural program, and participate in a fun activity suited for all ability levels. Dress in something comfortable that you can easily move around in! Lunch provided for all participants.
4:30.-7:00 p.m.Group dinner
Goudy Commons
Open for first contract meal. Meet your group leaders for dinner.
Tuesday, January 17

Friday, January 20
12:30 - 5:00 p.m.Into The Streets Lunch and Service Project
Meet in the lobby of the 2nd floor of Putman University Center
Be a part of this important Willamette tradition! Students, faculty, and staff will share a meal together and then head into the Salem community to do service projects honoring the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. (All students are dismissed from class for the afternoon)
