Laura Braithwaite

Hey! Welcome to NSOCO!  My name is Laura Braithwaite, and I am a sophomore economics major.  I am from Palm Desert, California.  Yeah, the southern California desert, where people stop functioning when it dips below 70 degrees in December.  Coming to the Rain State was a bit of a struggle at first, but with the help that Willamette and Jump Start provided the transition was simple as possible.

I love participating in community service outreach activities at Willamette.  I was in charge of the Willamette Backpack Project, which was a backpack fundraiser for HOME Youth and Resource Center (a center for at-risk teens in Salem).  Also, I volunteer at the Willamette Academy as a tutor, a college outreach program adjunct to the university, and Bush Elementary as a teacher's assistant.  Aside from community service, I am active in my sorority and on the swim team.  Another random fact is that I sing Ricky Martin's "Livin' La Vida Loca" in my head when I am racing.

When I'm not studying, I'm addicted to the World Series playoffs in October, along with watching tennis tournaments and soccer.  I can always be found hanging out in the Montag Student Center or laying in the grass along the Mill stream with friends.

I could not be more excited for this summer's program! I am looking forward to meeting all of you!  Feel free to e-mail me at Lbraithw@willamette.edu if you have any questions or add me on facebook.  See you soon!
