Hi, welcome to NSOCO! My name is Lily and I'm one of the NSOCO leaders this year. I'm a Sophomore, a Spanish major and a music minor. I'm from Vacaville, California, that is pretty much the land of the outlet mall and the gas station stop on I 80.
I love traveling, I've been to nine countries, and my goal is to be fluent enough in Spanish to live and work in South America for a few years after I graduate. I spent 6 weeks in Ecuador last summer and I'm very excited to return to Costa Rica this summer and then spend a semester in Spain in the spring.
Volunteering is one of my passions. Both my parents are teachers, so I pretty much grew up in schools and started helping in the office and classroom when I was very young. I've been doing lots of different service projects over the years, but last summer opened up a new passion for me. While I was in Ecuador I worked with 3 mentally and physically handicapped teenage girls. I really enjoyed the experience of learning new forms of communication and forming friendships with these girls. This year I'm a volunteer at Oregon School for the Blind and not only have I made lots of friends, but I've broadened my perspective of the world.
I was a NSOCO participant my incoming freshman year and I'm very excited to meet and work with all the new participants! It really made an impact on my life and was a great stepping-stone for getting involved with the community. I can't wait to meet you all in August and hope you're having a great summer so far. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions of just want to chat about Willamette. My email is lbusher@willamette.edu. You can also add me on facebook if you want to. See you in August!
