"Steppin Out took away all my doubts about starting fresh at a new school. It allowed me to feel at home with many people I knew. It was the best decision I made after deciding to come to Willamette." Kyla Barr '11

Explore Northwest Oregon's magnificent coast, mountains and rivers with the Steppin' Out program and make new friends along the way. Each morning, Steppin' Out participants will launch from base camp at the 4-H Conference Center near Salem. You will be able to choose from several different day-hike options for the first two days. Each hike will average between 4–10 miles round trip, giving you an opportunity to experience Oregon's lush vegetation and breathtaking landscapes. We will return to base camp after each great day of hiking to share dinner and get better acquainted with members of the two other Jump Start groups. On the third day, Steppin' Out participants will take a white-water rafting trip down the Deschutes River. It promises to be an exhilarating day with midday swimming, beautiful surroundings, thrilling rapids and, of course, good company! The following day, all Jump Start groups will join up to work on a community service project. There will be time for hanging out and a delicious dinner at the 4-H Center with members of the other Jump Start programs, as well as guests from the Willamette and Salem communities. So preface your Willamette experience with fun new friends and adventures!
