What is Kaneko Council?
Sustainability - Japanese Heritage - Community Service - Self Governance
Established in the fall of 2006 as Willamette University's first Residential Commons, Kaneko Commons focuses on building a community of respect and inclusiveness through self-governance based on our themes of sustainability, Japanese heritage, and community service.
The Kaneko Commons Council is the governing body of Kaneko Commons. We are comprised of Executive Officers, Wing Correspondents, and Community Mentors, and are advised by the Faculty Mentor, Commons Coordinator, and Kaneko Intern.
The Executive Officers, or the Exec, include the president, vice-president, chief financial officer, archivist and director of communications. They are elected by Kaneko residents in a general election each spring to serve for the following academic year. The Exec form the backbone of Commons Council by fulfilling their respective duties. Execs are also responsible for coordinating a few programs of the larger programs in Kaneko, and are expected to play an active role on the committees they advise.
