Subject: University Preparedness Planning Committee
Dear Willamette Community,
In response to federal guidelines from the Center for Disease Control regarding best practices for colleges and universities in the event of a pandemic (specifically, avian influenza virus), I have established a multidisciplinary committee to prepare a plan for prevention and response, as follows:
The University Preparedness Planning Committee is charged with the following responsibilities:
- Develop and test a pandemic preparedness plan for the campus community;
- Provide education and training to University faculty, staff and students on the potential threat, methods of individual prevention and the University's preparations;
- Identify needs, priorities and strategies to prepare adequately for and respond to an on-campus biological emergency;
- Foster cooperation among campus departments and with outside entities such as Salem Hospital and Marion County Heath Department;
- Monitor the worldwide threat of pandemic flu and advise the president the of the University's changing needs and our ability to respond; and
- Develop a communications plan for employees, parents and students.
