College Colloquium Student Research Grants: Application Instructions
Application deadline: February 16, 2010.
A. Research Proposal.
Your proposal should be typed, double-spaced, up to a maximum of five pages. Please observe the following format:
I. Project Description.
Explain the purpose of your project. Be specific and direct as you can be at this point in your thoughts about the project. What question or puzzle animates your project? How do you plan to go about answering this question? As best you can, describe the literature that is relevant to your project and explain the intellectual significance of your work.
II. Schedule.
Provide an initial timetable for implementing the various steps of your proposed research project. That is, what work do you plan to accomplish in the spring semester? What reading or other research will you do? How will you use your time during the summer?
III. Budget.
As specifically as possible, provide a budget outline that estimates personal expenses, supplies, travel expenses, per diem, and any other anticipated costs.
IV. Importance to Student.
Explain why this project is important to you, and the role it plays in your personal and academic development.
B. Supporting Materials
Your application should include the following:
I. an informal transcript
II. a sponsor form from the colloquium professor with whom you plan to carry out your project.
