ART BY THE PARK

2009 Workshop and Registration Information

ART BY THE PARK is a residential workshop for adults, held on the Willamette University campus.

The full package includes

  • Tuition for 4 workshop sessions (3 hours each),
  • 2 nights lodging (in air conditioned apartment units),
  • 2 breakfasts,
  • 3 lunches,
  • Refreshment breaks
  • Welcoming reception

The workshops will include a selection of art classes taught by Willamette Faculty and Northwest artists.  Willamette's own on campus caterer, Bon Appétit, will provide meals for the guests, in Goudy Commons.  Bon Appétit will also be presenting their own class The Art of Latin Cooking. The participants will have opportunities to visit the Hallie Ford Museum of Art, tour and enjoy the beautiful gardens at Willamette University, and explore the downtown area of Salem.  The July workshop dates allow participants to continue their art adventure by visiting the Salem Art Association's Annual Salem Art Fair and Festival, located only blocks away at Bush Pasture Park.  Lodging will be in (air conditioned) apartment units on campus.

Wednesday, July 15

Check in and registration at 10:00am.  Following lunch, Session 1 will begin.  Prior to dinner, participants will be invited to a Welcoming Reception.

Wednesday evening, the American Association of University Women has invited workshop attendees to join them at their MIDSUMMER NIGHT MUSICALE.  The evening will consist of a picnic dinner by the Mill Stream and a Concert in Hudson Hall.  This year's concert will be put on by The Midnight Serenaders, performing an infectious blend of old-time jazz and early swing.  Guests will also have the option of eating dinner at Goudy Commons on this evening.

Thursday, July 16

Thursday we will have two workshop sessions, one in the morning and one in the afternoon.  Some of the afternoon sessions are a continuation of the mornining sessions.  We will have lunch in Goudy Commons.  Thursday evening we hope to offer you the opportunity to get a head start on the art fair by attending the Salem Art Fair & Festival Opening Dinner (event has yet to be confirmed).  Again, guests will have the option of dinner in Goudy Commons.

Friday, July 17

The final workshop session will commence after breakfast on Friday.  Participants will join together for lunch and will then be free to visit the art fair, enjoy the campus, finish up projects, or pursue whatever activity they choose!  Willamette will offer the option of staying an additional night.
