Health and safety while traveling abroad

In addition to web-based information that is provided by the U.S. State Department and various other governments, the University encourages members of the Willamette Community to consult Assist America (1-301-656-4152) or AIG Assist (1-713-260-5508) for faculty, and staff who are traveling internationally. Assist America and AIG Assist provide 24/7 travel assistance coverage such as up-to-date information about travel risks of all kinds.

Travel to an area with heightened health or safety risks

All employees of the Willamette community should be able to make well-informed travel decisions, and no one should be coerced or required to travel to locales where there are significantly heightened health or safety risks.  High-risk areas, countries or regions of the world are found at U.S. State Department Travel Warning and Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Travel Health Warning.

2. What if I am injured or get sick and I need a doctor?

Contact local emergency services on your emergency card. If you are traveling or in a situation where you cannot contact the on-site support staff at Willamette University, you should contact Assist America to find medical services in the nearest facility.

If you are BlueCross BlueShield holder, you may contact BlueCard worldwide service center at 1-804-673-1177.

If you have Kaiser Permanente health insurance, they recommend you to contact local emergency services to receive an immediate treatment. If you are admitted to a hospital overseas, you still must notify Kaiser patient transfer coordinator at 1-503-571-4540 within 24 hours after care begins (or as soon as reasonably possible.)
