Student Organization Websites

The Office of Student Activities has partnered with Web Development and WITS to provide you with a new tool for creating and maintaining a web site your organization.  This is accomplished by giving recognized clubs and organizations access to the same tool used to maintain the university's web presence-WebEdit. 

Clubs and organization will no longer need to find someone who knows html or Dreamweaver to create or maintain a web presence.  That responsibility can now be delegated to almost any member of an organization.  To assist clubs or organizations in developing a web site in WebEdit, we have developed 24 site templates for your group to choose from (4 different page layouts and 6 different color schemes).

Getting Started

To get the process of creating a web site in WebEdit started each club or organization will need to:  

1. Identify one or more individuals to serve as the organization's "webmasters."
2. Have the "webmasters" register for a WebEdit training session (they don't all have to attend the same session).  Once an individual has been through the training, they will be granted access to WebEdit and to the appropriate website(s).
3. Determine how the group will select a layout and color scheme for its site and ensure that the process reaches a conclusion. Each group will also need to decide if you want a header image (see example) and/or an image above the left navigation (see example). Additional details about how to get assistance from WITS in creating those images will be forthcoming shortly.
4. Work with your "webmaster(s)" to identify the content for your website.
5. Our collective goal is get as many club and organization web sites built this fall as possible.  Therefore we are encouraging groups to build out the basic pages being provided as part of a template site:  a page about the organization, a contact page for the officers and the advisor, a calendar or events page, and a membership list.  How each group's site grows from there will depend upon the time, energy, and creativity of its "webmasters" to create additional pages, including photo-galleries, news/events stories, and activity profiles, etc.
