What's New in MAT and MEd

GSE Will Offer Certificate in Writing

Teachers interested in teaching writing at any level and/or improving student learning through the use of writing in any content area are invited to earn a Certificate in the Teaching of Writing. The new Certificate was proposed by the Oregon Writing Project as a natural progression of their work to provide professional development in the teaching of writing. Teachers holding this Certificate will be well prepared as Instructional Coaches or teacher leaders in the area of writing.

Beginning with the Summer Institute 2011, the new Certificate will serve as an elective endorsement option (like Reading and ELL do now) for candidates working to complete an M.Ed. at Willamette.  Coursework spans approximately two summers and one academic year.

GSE Welcomes Thai Teachers

This spring, the Willamette University Graduate School of Education hosted a welcome event for the English Language and Culture Institute, bringing together WU faculty and twenty teachers-in-training from Thailand. The event was part of a four-week teacher-training course that immerses foreign teachers in the English language, the surrounding community, and the teaching English as a Foreign Language. These teachers, after their stay in Oregon, will return to Thailand to teach English to others. During their stay, these teachers visited local sites, spent time in local schools, and immersed themselves in the study teaching English.
