Online MAT Program

The Willamette University Graduate School of Education is excited to announce a new delivery option for the Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) program.  Starting each January, candidates may begin classes to earn their MAT degree through online delivery of coursework.  The required field experience (practicum and student teaching) will be in the traditional classroom setting in public schools, and methods courses may require syncronous (specific day and time) log in to participate.  

The online format of the MAT program mirrors the content of the traditional MAT program.  The curriculum is the same and many of the faculty are full-time professors.  The difference is that the new MAT cohort will have the convenience of taking online courses, with the exception of the field experience component.  In addition, candidates in the online program will be required to earn an English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) endorsement along with the MAT degree.  This specialty endorsement offers more marketability to graduates looking for their first teaching position.
