Extended MAT Program (18-month)
Overview
The Willamette University Graduate School of Education offers an outstanding Master of Arts in Teaching program to prepare teachers not only for the classroom, but for educational leadership. Our field-based program develops reflective professionals who are content knowledgeable, student-centered, collaborative and culturally competent.
Program Structure
With classes on Monday evenings, plus one to two Saturdays a month, the campus extended program allows greater scheduling flexibility and the possibility to work as you transition into the teaching profession. Beginning Semester Two, students must be able to complete the required field experience at a school site during the fall semester, and a full-time student teaching assignment January through June.
- Semester One: (January-June)
On-campus and/or synchronous online classes one/three evenings each week and one/two Saturdays a month
Clinical experience: 90 hours in schools or educational settings scheduled at your convenience - Semester Two: (August-January)
On-campus and/or synchronous online classes one/three evenings each week and one/two Saturdays a month
Clinical experience: September-October - One/two days a week at school site, October-December - 3/4 weeks at school site - Semester Three: (January-June)
On-campus and/or synchronous online classes one/three evenings each week and one Saturday a month
Clinical experience: At school site Monday-Friday, all day

More about the Extended MAT Program
- Select a track based on intended authorization levels, either K-8 or Secondary.
- Candidates in the extended program may add one of the specialty endorsements of ESOL or Special Education to their teaching license. Candidates also have the option to take one introductory course toward the Reading Endorsement, which is eligible to teachers with at least three years of licensed teaching experience.
- Classes meet on-campus in the Graduate School of Education.
