Willamette University College of Law offers a limited enrollment, part-time day program that allows students to complete their JD over the course of four-to-seven years while maintaining a work and/or family life balance.

How to Apply

To apply for admission, a part-time applicant must follow the same JD Application process as full-time students and meet the same admission requirements. In addition, part-time applicants must attach an addendum to their application stating why they'll benefit pursing a JD part-time instead of full-time.

Academic Program

Part-time students may take up to 9 credit hours per semester. Students must enroll in at least 5 credit hours to be eligible for financial aid. Students may opt to supplement fall and spring semester coursework with summer courses. Part-time students must complete all the degree requirements for graduation within 7 years of enrollment per the American Bar Association.

Course Schedule

Willamette University College of Law's part-time program is a day program only and students must start in the fall. Part-time students enroll in the same classes as full-time students. Part-time students should expect to have class every day (Monday-Friday) in the mornings or afternoons. First year courses are not offered in the evenings. First year courses will be assigned after consultation with the Associate Dean of Student Affairs. Notification of fall class assignments and schedule will be made prior to Orientation, which occurs in mid-August.

Tuition and Financial Aid

Applicants for admission through the part-time program will automatically be considered for all merit-based scholarships, which are awarded on a prorated basis. Estimated expenses for the part-time program are disclosed on the Tuition and Financial Aid section of the Admission Office website.

Working as a Part-Time Student

Part-time students are permitted to work in their first year and throughout their part-time program enrollment. All students, full-time and part-time, must adhere to the mandatory student attendance policy.
