General Public: Modernizing Government Debt Collections Conference

The Institute for Modern Government will be hosting a symposium on November 1, 2013 at Willamette University to bring together participants from government, private sector, and non-profit organizations who are involved in accounts collection. The symposium will be a day of lectures, discussion panels, and round table sessions to discuss topics including:

Topics will include:

  • the Legislative perspective on government debt collection, with State Senator Doug Whitsett and State Representative Vicki Berger
  • a review of Oregon laws governing debt collection, including the Fair Practices Act
  • Federal programs and opportunities to collaborate, with David Burgess, the program manager of the US Treasury’s Treasury Offset Program (TOP) and Jeffrey Schramek, the Assistant Commissioner for Debt Management at the US Treasury
  • Oregon debt collections practices, with Justice Paul DeMuniz, former Chief Justice of Oregon
