Professor Fred Thompson Serves on United Nations Blue Ribbon Commission


October 26, 2006— Skopje, Macedonia — For the past six months, Atkinson Professor Fred Thompson has served on the United Nations Development Program’s Blue Ribbon Commission related to the Republic of Macedonia. Fred took the lead role in the Commission’s recommendations on fiscal decentralization, the design of block grants and tax administration. He also worked on the sections of the report related to banking reform and public debt.

The Commission delivered its report on October 26 in Skopje, Macedonia. The report aims to identify the economic reforms Macedonia needs to achieve sustainable growth and be eligible to join the European Union.
