Fred Thompson is a widely recognized expert on public finance, government regulation of business, and taxing and borrowing, especially in Oregon (e.g., school finance, property and income taxation, etc.). He is the coauthor of Regulatory Policies and Practice, Reinventing the Pentagon, which won the Armed Forces Controller’s best author award, and the Handbook of Public Finance, in addition to more than 100 other publications. He has worked for the State of California Department of Finance and the Economic Council of Canada, as well various Oregon state boards, commissions and task forces. He serves on 13 editorial boards and has received lifetime scholarly achievement awards from the National Association of Schools of Public Affairs and Administration, the American Society for Public Administration and the Association for Budgeting and Financial Management.
