Chemistry department earns grant to purchase new equipment

Professor Chuck Williamson and the Willamette chemistry department recently won a grant from the Pittsburgh Conference Memorial National College Grants Award Program to purchase new lab equipment.

The department will use the $8,500 grant to buy a Rudolph Research Autopol III Polarimeter, allowing them to add new experiments in their chemistry courses. Students will use the device to measure the optical activity displayed by inorganic and organic compounds.

The award, funded by the Pittsburgh Conference on Analytical Chemistry and Applied Spectroscopy, helps small colleges enhance their science curricula through grants to purchase equipment and course materials.
