Willamette Theatre features Beckettshorts

Directed by Jonathan Cole, "Beckettshorts" previews Nov. 11 and runs each Thursday, Friday and Saturday through Nov. 20 at 7:30 p.m. Matinees are scheduled Nov.14 and 20 at 2 p.m.

The performance is a compilation of five pieces: "Act Without Words I," "Act Without Words II," "Breath," "Footfalls," and "Rockaby."

This one-hour production of Samuel Beckett's fascinating short plays is a beautifully fragmented dramatic event, centered on humanity's constant struggle with time, language and the fallibility of memory.

One of the most influential playwrights of the 20th century, Beckett raises questions about the human condition. He explores a need to impose order on the chaos of daily life using tension - words spoken in silence, actions contradicting words and light shown in darkness.

"Beckett's work addresses fundamental questions about life's meaning," said Cole. "The audience's challenge is to recognize the questions that he asks."

The play will be held in Willamette University's newly renovated playhouse.

Tickets start at $8, with discounts for seniors and students. For more information, visit www.willamette.edu/arts/theatre/box_office.html.
