Lecture addresses environmental programs of big box businesses
Professor Peter Dauvergn, the Canada Research Chair in Global Environmental Politics and director of the Liu Institute for Global Issues, will discuss "The Rise of Big Box Environmental Governance" in a free lecture Thursday, Dec. 2, at 7 p.m. in Montag Den at Willamette University.
Big box stores like Walmart are increasingly launching environmental programs and politics. Dauvergn will discuss why this is happening, as he attempts to reveal both the potential and limits of big box governance to address the global problem of consumption.
Dauvergn's new book, The Shadows of Consumption: Consequences for the Global Environment, will be available for sale at the event, and a book signing will follow the lecture.
This event is sponsored by Willamette's Center for Sustainable Communities.
