Willamette's Dramatic Vocal Arts presents Hansel and Gretel
Willamette University's Dramatic Vocal Arts will present Humperdinck's "Hansel and Gretel" March 11 and 12 at 7 p.m. in Smith Auditorium.
The opera, first performed in 1893, is based on the well-known Grimm fairy tale in which two children, sent into the woods as punishment by their mother, stumble upon a gingerbread house and are lured into a witch's trap.
Willamette's production, directed by Professor Allison Swensen-Mitchell, will maintain the balance of darkness and subtle charm that has drawn audiences to "Hansel and Gretel" for ages. Professor Hekun Wu, director of the University Chamber Orchestra, will conduct the student cast, which will be joined by the orchestra and the Willamette Girl Choir.
Admission is $7 for adults and $3 for students with ID. Tickets may be purchased through the music department office or by phone at 503-370-6255.
