Giving Back
More than 120 Willamette University students, faculty and staff committed the afternoon of Jan. 21 to bettering the Salem community. Launched in 1999, the "Into the Streets" volunteer service program is part of a weeklong celebration honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. This year, service projects included beautifying local parks, planting trees, restoring native habitats at Zena Forest and organizing donations at a Humane Society thrift store.
Forest Management at ZenaDonning hard hats, a group of students and staff members learn about Willamette University's Zena Forest from Joe Bowersox, who teaches environmental and earth sciences. The volunteers spent the afternoon restoring native habitats at the forest.
