Tort expert Goldberg to deliver Peterson Series lecture

by Marketing & Communications,

Professor John Goldberg, national expert in tort law, tort theory and political philosophy from Harvard Law School, will discuss “Tarasoff, Tort and Crime: A Turning Point for Responsibility in Law,” at Willamette University College of Law on Tuesday, January 20 at 5:30 p.m. in room 201 of the Truman Wesley Collins Legal Center. The presentation, part of the law school’s Peterson Lecture Series, is sponsored by Willamette’s Center for Constitutional Government. The event is free and open to the public.

Goldberg will share his analysis of the 1976 California Supreme Court ruling in Tarasoff v. Board of Regents that determined a therapist could be held liable for failing to warn Tatiana Tarasoff of a patient’s murderous intentions toward her, and the Court’s lesser-known decision to overturn the murder conviction of the patient.

The lecture is made possible by the Ken and Claudia Peterson Foundation.
