Willamette University celebrates Class of 2015 at commencement

by Marketing & Communications,

A MacArthur “genius” award-winning marine ecologist, the CEO of an investment management firm and an alumna serving as a U.S. senator in Alaska — these three notable speakers came to campus on May 17 to deliver commencement addresses and celebrate the Class of 2015.

In the College of Liberal Arts, 507 students participated in commencement. Of these, 60% were female, 22% were students of color and 4% completed more than one major. They represented 26 states and two countries — the United States and Japan. The top seven majors were economics, politics, exercise science, psychology, history, biology and English.

The College of Law awarded 103 Juris Doctor (JD), 14 Master of Laws (LLM) and two Master of Legal Studies (MLS) degrees, while the Atkinson Graduate School of Management awarded 81 Master of Business Administration (MBA) degrees to early career and career-change students.

Among those who earned MBAs, 43 were international students representing 13 countries, including the United States. At a separate ceremony during the academic year, Atkinson awarded 33 MBA degrees to graduates of the evening MBA for Professionals program.

The College of Law and Atkinson also awarded joint degrees (JD/MBA) to two graduates.
