Updates on communications and enrollment

CAMPUS ANNOUNCEMENT

Dear Willamette Community,

A few weeks ago Michael Beseda, vice president for Enrollment and University Communications, announced his upcoming departure from Willamette. Since then, I’ve engaged in a number of conversations on how to transition our important work related to enrollment and communications. It’s clear that Michael has done an excellent job strengthening our efforts in both of these areas, building leaders and shaping strategy.

To that end, I’m pleased to announce newly configured roles for Russ Yost MBA’05 and Jeremy Bogan, as well as new reporting structures for admissions, financial aid, the Registrar’s Office and University Communications, effective after Michael’s departure on Oct. 7.

Russ has accepted my offer to become Willamette’s chief communications officer. In this role, Russ, and the University Communications team, will report to me and continue the work of supporting offices and programs across campus while developing Willamette’s strategic communications and marketing efforts. Russ has served Willamette for over 11 years, first as director of marketing for the Atkinson Graduate School of Management and, for the past two years, as associate vice president for University Communications.

Jeremy Bogan will become associate vice president and dean of admission, a title change that clearly indicates to both internal and external constituents his leadership of our undergraduate admissions programs. Jeremy and the Office of Admission, Patty Hoban and the Office of Financial Aid, and Laura Jacobs Anderson and the Registrar’s Office will all report to Carol Long, senior vice president for academic and student affairs.

Enrollment and retention are critical priorities for Willamette, and I’m confident that Jeremy, Patty and Laura’s collaboration under Carol’s experienced leadership will serve us well through the coming year. I will work with all of them, along with Dean Ruth Feingold and the CLA admissions committee, on longer-term strategies for continued coordination of our various enrollment efforts.

Please join me in thanking Michael for his service to Willamette and congratulating Russ and Jeremy in their new roles.

Sincerely,
Steve
