Dear Representative Winters & Senator Derfler,
I am writing to you today to urge you to oppose House Bill 3830. HB 3830
would impose counseling sessions with a state mandated curriculum for all women seeking
abortion services. The bill is unnecessary, because Oregon State Law already requires that
doctors obtain the informed consent of their patients before performing any medical
procedures. Like any other medical procure, abortions are never performed without in
depth discussion between the patient and her doctor. This discussion, and the informed
decision a patient makes concerning abortion services, is a discussion that includes a
woman and her doctor, and does not require government dollars and restrictions.
Thank you for serving our constituency as Legislators, and for taking the time to
read my letter and consider my opinions on this important issue. Again, I urge you to
oppose HB 3830, because Oregon State Law already requires doctors to obtain informed
consent of their patients before performing ALL medical procedures including abortions.
Sincerely,
Dear Senator Derfler and Representative Winters,
I am writing to you to thank you for your dedication to the interests of
Oregon and the citizens you represent. I also want to urge you to oppose House
Bill 3830. HB 3830 would impose a 24-hour delay period for women seeking
abortion services. This delay period would cause emotional and financial
hardships for women seeking abortion services. A law requiring delay period
would have the greatest negative impact on RURAL WOMEN, who often have
to travel great distances to obtain reproductive services.
Please, do not put rural women under any additional hardships. Vote
NO on House Bill 3830.
Sincerely,
Dear Representative Winters and Senator Derfler:
I am writing to you today asking you to oppose HB 3830. This bill
would require women to delay 24 hours before she can choose to have
an abortion. This bill is another example of government interference.
The relationship that a doctor has with his or her patient is sacred.
Allowing the Government to interfere and dictate to a doctor what he
or she must do in different medical situations is antithetical to Oregon
values.
If HB 3830 does come up for a vote, I would like to urge you to vote
NO. This type of government interference is not good for Oregon.
Sincerely,
Dear Representative Winters & Senator Derfler:
As a constituent I would like to urge you to vote no on HB
3830.
HB 3830 is a thinly veiled political attack on a woman’s
fundamental right to choose. The Right to Life PAC is calling
it a women’s right to know law—but Oregon law already
requires doctors to get informed consent from their patients.
That is why HB 3830 is clearly an attempt to chip away at a
woman’s fundamental right to choice. This bill would require
biased counseling, medically inaccurate counseling and a
twenty-four hour delay.
HB 3830 is an unnecessary piece of legislation. Additionally,
it interferes with the doctor patient relationship and will
require the state to sponsor biased counseling.
I urge you to do all you can to defeat this bill.
Sincerely,
Dear Rep. Winters and Senator Derfler:
I am writing to urge you to oppose HB 3830. This bill, sponsored by
the Right to Life PAC, is a clear attack on a woman’s right to choose.
HB 3830 requires a woman to delay 24 hours before she can chose to
have an abortion and requires her to go through state sponsored
biased counseling. The 24 hour delay seems to imply that women do
not take choosing to have an abortion very seriously which is both
wrong and demeaning.
Additionally, women would have to undergo ‘counseling’. This
counseling is clearly anti-choice in focus and would force doctors to
give medically false counseling—such as abortion causes breast
cancer. Instead of providing good information this ‘counseling’ is
meant to intimidate and coerce a woman into not exercising her legal
right to choose.
Please vote no on HB 3830.
Sincerely,
