Willamette – Delta Zeta

The spring semester here at Delta Zeta is always one that holds mixed emotion. As we watch 15 of our senior brothers depart we welcome 33 new men to our fraternity. Under the guidance of the executive committee, our chapter received the coveted “Batting 1.000” award at Province. While hosting this event, we realized that this is a prosperous time for Delta Zeta and more over the entire Northwest Province of Sigma Chi. While we are sad to see these leaders move on we are more than confident that our new executive staff will undoubtedly keep us guiding in a positive direction. We hope that all of the graduating seniors will look back on the memories and connections that they have made under the bonds of Sigma Chi and know that this place will forever be home for each of them.

Winter 2011

The past semester at the Delta Zeta chapter of Sigma Chi has been filled with much excitement. The culmination of which was the ever-successful philanthropy event “Willamette Bachelor” where we were able to raise over $3,500 for the Huntzman Cancer Institute. With the fall term coming to a close we looked forward to the spring semester where the promise of the largest pledge class we have seen in years consumes the thoughts of our recruitment chair. Spring semester also signifies the beginning of a new term of leadership here at Delta Zeta. Elections for a new “top-five” will be held and while past leadership has pushed us in a new and better direction we are confident that these new officials will follow in the footsteps of those in the past while adding new elements and ideas to further aid the house and the community that surrounds it.

Fall 2010

With the first semester of the 2010 school year quickly passing and new members calling our chapter house home, we at Delta Zeta planned the 6th Annual Sigma Chi Challenge Golf Tournament. This event, headed by Tommy Laird (’13) and several alumni, aimed to eliminate all house debt and supplement The Bob Joseph Delta Zeta Educational Fund. Just two years ago this event grossed roughly $11,000, and this year shows promise for having the same turnout or better. After we said farewell to our senior brothers this summer, we were represented by six of our own at BLTW and two at Horizons generating a new  group of Delta Zeta leaders. With 25 individuals signing up to gain further information about recruitment during first semester we plan to have a very strong recruitment year.

Spring 2010

After initiating 19 new members last spring the number of active members rose to 66, and with a singing last May we hoped to raise that number further. Yet we must remember that with the addition of new brothers comes the absence of older brothers. We graduated 12 members of the Delta Zeta chapter in the spring and though it was hard to see them go it will be stirring to see what they do with the knowledge and strength that they gained while undergraduate members of Sigma Chi. Hopefully we can say we left them with the fond memories of a successful Derby Daze and a great celebration of the formation of the Miami Triad in their last semester, and furthermore we hope that they departed with a sense of brotherhood that they can hold with them the rest of their lives.
