What is WUPILP?The Willamette University Public Interest Law Project was formed in 1992 to educate and prepare future lawyers to recognize the inequities that exist in our legal system and to dedicate their professional lives to the development of a more just society. WUPILP is dedicated to increasing the awareness of students, faculty, administrators to the rewards and opportunities in public interest law through financial support, educational programs and community outreach.back to top What types of activities are involved?WUPILP communicates volunteer opportunities, recent examples of which include activities with the recent political campaigns and Habitat for Humanity; sponsors social and fundraising opportunities through the school year, such as legal book and supplement sales, afternoon snacks, t-shirt sales, and the annual auction; provides a summer fellowship provides monetary grants enabling Willamette law students to gain valuable professional experience with and assistance to non-profit legal organizations that are unable to compensate legal clerks; and works with the administration to raise money for the Loan Assistance Repayment Program.back to top What is the annual auction?Each spring WUPILP invites the WUCL community, donors, attorneys, judges, and the public to attend its annual auction, which is hosted as a thank you for the support WUPILP receives throughout the year and to raise money for the summer fellowship. The event begins with a silent auction, continues with a live auction, and includes wine tasting provided by local wineries. Last year, the auction raised over $25,000 and provided four fellowships to Willamette law students.back to top How do I become a member of WUPILP?Any student can become a member of WUPILP. There are no membership dues or strict membership requirements. For more information contact one of the Executive Board Members.back to top Why donate to WUPILP?Donors to WUPILP enjoy recognition of their generous support as a Benefactor, Patron, Sponsor, Leader, or Friend, a tax-deductible gift, and at least one complimentary admission ticket to the annual auction and souvenir wine glass. Furthermore, WUPILP offers advertisement of a donors, company or otherwise, on its website, in its publicity for the annual auction, in the auction program, and at the auction itself. Finally, all donors receive WUPILP updates and invitations to all WUPILP sponsored functions, Benefactors and Patrons receiving at least one complimentary admission ticket to all functions.Donations to WUPILP can be made in support of the organization as a whole or for specific programs and functions, such the Loan Assistance Repayment Program, the Summer Fellowship, and the annual auction. Donations can also be made in the form of items to be sold at the annual auction, either during the silent or live auctions, or services for a WUPILP function.
