Goldwater Program Gives Honorable Mention to Willamette Student

Jared Nishikawa '10 received an honorable mention from the prestigious Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship Program for students with exceptional promise and interest in careers in math, the sciences or engineering.

Nishikawa is a mathematics major who plans to pursue a Ph.D. in the subject. His goals include conducting research in pure and applied mathematics and teaching at the university level. At Willamette he has been a leader for the Opening Days and Jump Start new student orientation programs, a member of the Shepard House Hall Council, an officer in the National Society of Collegiate Scholars and a member of the Alpha Lambda Delta honor society. He also sings in Male Ensemble Willamette, a student choral group.
