Amy "Buffy" Morris '02
Soccer Team Captain
Willamette’s women’s soccer team captain Amy “Buffy” Morris ’02 knows Sparks Field better than anyone at Willamette. Through four seasons, Morris, the 2001 Northwest Conference Players of the Year, was undefeated at Sparks Field, leading the Bearcats to an astonishing 76-6-8 record. Morris is excited about a proposed $2 million upgrade that will turn Sparks Field and the adjoining Sparks Center into the Northwest Conference’s premier soccer venue. “The new field will be a huge benefit for our team because we will be able to use it year round. It will definitely give us an edge.”

Development: Areas to Give

Eaton Hall Renovation ProjectWhere Do I Create? Facilities

“I love the atmosphere at Sparks Field,” Says Amy “Buffy” Morris ’02, Willamette’s all-time leading scorer in women’s soccer. “The crowd is right on top of the field – it’s a great place to compete.”
Willamette’s facilities, whether their use is athletic, academic or artistic in nature, provide an environment that inspires the highest achievement. The University is planning a series of new capital projects that will add further value and significance to its academic and residential life.

The first project is to modernize learning and research spaces in many of its venerable buildings including Eaton Hall, Smullin Hall, Gatke Hall and the Kresge Theatre. Classrooms and lab facilities in these buildings will be outfitted to utilize new educational technologies while the theatre requires extensive renovations to update its lighting, staging and seating.

Feet on the new turf.Further, renovations are needed for both Sparks Field and Sparks Center. Sparks Field needs to be updated with a durable year-round playing surface, permanent stadium seating and stadium lighting. Expanding Sparks Center will provide additional space for the Department of Athletics and create critically needed laboratory space for the Department of Exercise Science.
