Webmail is a web-based email client that functions similarly to other web-based programs such as Hotmail or Yahoo. It can be accessed from any computer that has a connection to the internet, whether you are on or off campus, and whether you are using a Windows PC or a Macintosh. All you need is a web browser such as Netscape or Internet Explorer. It is not necessary to input any mail server settings or adjust any other configuration on your computer. For these reasons, Webmail is a great solution for people who travel often and need to access their email while they're away, or for people who use more than one computer on a regular basis.
Webmail is a light-weight email client, meaning that it's features are not as robust as the features you might see in an email client like Molizza Thunderbird or MS Outlook. Webmail allows you to send and receive email messages and attachments, manage mail folders, and maintain a personal address book. There is a message highlighting feature, but no message filtering. Webmail does not allow you to view Newsgroups. There is no automatic address completion during message composition like you might have seen in programs like Pine or Thunderbird. Also, if you have a large amount of messages in your Inbox, Webmail's performance may be noticeably slower than Thunderbird, Outlook or Pine.
