Residential Networks - Quick Start Guide

Getting connected to Willamette's networks (wired and wireless) in the residence halls

Willamette Provides Wireless access in all of its residence halls.

Most computers are already set-up to connect to Willamette's wired and wireless networks. This is the quick guide to connecting to those networks. If you have any problems, or need more detailed instructions look HERE

Wireless

  • Turn on your computer.
  • In your Wireless Network Management software select the appropriate Willamette network.
  • Open your web browser.
  • You should see a page asking you to Register on the Willamette network. Follow those instructions.
  • That's all there is to it.

Wired (Ethernet)

Wired connections are available in most residence halls. Public Wired is available in Smullin 119 and the Hatfield Library only.
  • Connect your Ethernet cable to the Jack in the wall and your computer's Ethernet port.
    • Be sure to use an RJ-45 (cat 5 or cat 6) cable, not a telephone cord.
  • Turn on your computer.
  • Open your web browser.
  • You should see a page asking you to Register on the Willamette network. Follow those instructions.
  • That's all there is to it

Quick Tips

  • TCP/IP is the network protocol used by Willamette:
    • Be sure your computer is set to Obtain IP address automatically (DHCP)
    • All IP addresses at Willamette will start with 185.104.x.x If you see any other numbers besides 158.104 you may not be connected to the correct network.
  • Security Software can get in the way. Many Antivrus and security programs with a Firewall component can get in the way of connecting to our network.
    • If you suspect this might be the case please contact SUPPORT for assistance in troubleshooting.
  • Help more detailed instructions and contact for technical support can be found on our Help Links Page..

Other Devices

If your smart phone or game console has a web-browser the above steps should work. Otherwise Click Here for more info on what items are allowed and how to register them on the network.
