Residential Networks - Quick Start Guide
Getting connected to Willamette's networks (wired and wireless) in the residence halls
Willamette Provides Wireless access in all of its residence halls.
Most computers are already set-up to connect to Willamette's wired and wireless networks. This is the quick guide to connecting to those networks. If you have any problems, or need more detailed instructions look HERE
Wireless
- Turn on your computer.
- In your Wireless Network Management software select the appropriate Willamette network.
- Open your web browser.
- You should see a page asking you to Register on the Willamette network. Follow those instructions.
- That's all there is to it.
Wired (Ethernet)
Wired connections are available in most residence halls. Public Wired is available in Smullin 119 and the Hatfield Library only.
- Connect your Ethernet cable to the Jack in the wall and your computer's Ethernet port.
- Be sure to use an RJ-45 (cat 5 or cat 6) cable, not a telephone cord.
- Turn on your computer.
- Open your web browser.
- You should see a page asking you to Register on the Willamette network. Follow those instructions.
- That's all there is to it
Quick Tips
- TCP/IP is the network protocol used by Willamette:
- Be sure your computer is set to Obtain IP address automatically (DHCP)
- All IP addresses at Willamette will start with 185.104.x.x If you see any other numbers besides 158.104 you may not be connected to the correct network.
- Security Software can get in the way. Many Antivrus and security programs with a Firewall component can get in the way of connecting to our network.
