Changing the name of a Windows XP user account.
Changing the name of your Windows XP account makes integrating with Willamette University network services (webprinting, drive-mapping) much easier. The name and password that you log onto a computer with are the name and password used to connect to the network services such as your home drive and webprinting. When your account’s name and password match your Willamette username and password everything should work seamlessly.
Before you begin, be sure that your password for Willamette is 8 characters or less. If it is not you need to visit the “changing your network password” part of the WU website and create a password that is short enough.
- Click on the Start Menu and choose Run.
- Type control userpasswords2 and click OK.
- The User Accounts window will appear. Select your primary account and click Properites. (It will be either the name you selected when you first started using your computer or “Owner”)
- In the User Name field, replace the name the account currently has with your Willamette user name.
- In the Full Name field, type the name that you’d like the account to appear as. NOTE: Do not leave the Full Name field blank. Then click OK.
- With your account still highlighted click the Reset Password… button.
- The Reset Password window will appear.
- In the New Password: field type your Willamette password.
- In the Confirm New Password: field type your Willamette password again.
- Click OK.
- You should be back to the User Accounts window. Click OK.
- Restart your computer and log in. You should now be able to map your home drive and access webprinters successfully .
