Using Roxio Easy CD Creator 5 for Windows

Create a Data CD | Other CD Recording Options | Getting Help

Insert a blank CD-R or CD-RW disc. In the labs (Smullin 119 and Collins 407) you'll see this screen:

The default action is Create a CD using Roxio Easy CD Creator. Click OK.

If the previous screen or the one shown below does not appear, choose Start > Programs > Roxio Easy CD Creator 5 > Applications > Easy CD Creator.

The Select a Project screen is used to select the type of project you want (music or data).

Click the Data CD Project button to record document files on your CD.

The Data CD Project window allows you to specify the files you want to record on your CD. Under Select source files, browse to the location where your files are stored. Note: You may experience CD recording problems if your source files are on a network volume. If so, you can first copy the files to a folder on the hard drive.

Select the files or folders, then click on the Add button or drag them to the lower right window pane. The amount of space remaining on the disc is shown at the bottom of the screen.

The lower left window pane shows the CD's disc ID. You can rename your disc using any combination of letters and numbers (no spaces).

If you're confident that the default settings are correct, you can click the red Record button now to record the CD. If you want to check the Record CD Setup settings, choose File > Record CD to display the setup screen. Click the Options button to expand the screen as shown below.

Most of the settings will be correct by default. To insure that the CD can be read by any computer, choose Finalize CD under Record Method. If you want to add files to the CD in the future, choose Finalize Session. Don't Finalize CD. If you finalize a CD-R disc, you will not be able to add any more files to it in the future. If you finalize a CD-RW disc, you will have to erase it completely before it can be reused (see Other CD Recording Options).

Click the Start Recording button to record the CD. You'll see a progress screen similar to the one shown below. When the CD is complete, click the OK button.

Remove your CD from the tray.

Other CD Recording Options

  • Using CD-RW (rewritable) CDs
If you want to reuse a CD-RW (rewritable) CD, it must first be erased. In the CD Project window, choose Disc > Erase Disc.

  • Create Music CDs
If you want to create a music CD, the prodedure is very similar. Just click the Music CD Project button on the Select a Project screen (see above). You can add music tracks to the CD Project window by dragging them or by using the Add button.

  • Record Other Types of Data CDs
The default CD file system type is Joliet. This file type preserves long file names and insures compatibility with older versions of Windows. If you want you CD to be compatible with Macintosh and Linux systems, you have to choose the ISSO 9660 CD type. Before you start the recording, choose File > CD Project Properties and select ISO 9660 from the File System pull-down menu on the General tab.
