LLM Applicants

The LLM is an advanced law degree program available to those who have completed the JD at an ABA-accredited American law school or its equivalent from a foreign law school.

Willamette's College of Law offers a General LLM with six concentration options.

The Admission Committee determines admission to the LLM Program. The committee reviews each application individually, ensuring the fair appraisal of each applicant's file. Offers will be extended to eligible applicants on the basis of several factors, including law school records, proof of English proficiency if relevant, written recommendations, and professional accomplishments.

LSAC.org

Applicants apply through Law School Admission Council (LSAC), which maintains an approved electronic-format application to Willamette's College of Law. See the LLM LSAC website for information about submitting electronic applications via CAS.

When to Apply

Applications are reviewed and decisions made on a rolling basis, and applications will be accepted as long as there is seat availability. For best consideration, prospective students are encouraged to apply as early as possible.

Application Materials & Requirements

Degree requirements

All LLM applicants must have a JD from an accredited American law school or its equivalent from a foreign law school. International students must also meet the requirements listed below.

Official law transcripts must be sent with degree conferred. If transcripts are not in English, a certified English translation must accompany the original. Please use the Law School Admission Council (LSAC) LLM Credential Assembly Service (CAS) for transcript translation and evaluation.

Application Processing Fee

There is no application fee.

Official, Certified Academic Records

Please use the Law School Admission Council (LSAC) LLM Credential Assembly Service to submit records. An official certified copy of your law school transcript, along with an official certification of your law degree (documentation of your qualification to practice law in your home state or country-such as a bar association ID number), is required.

All transcripts or other academic records must be official documents bearing the registrar's signature or the institution's seal. If these records are not in English, a certified English translation must be submitted together with the originals. Please use the Law School Admission Council (LSAC) LLM Credential Assembly Service (llm.lsac.org). WES (wes.org/students/icap/asp) and AACRAO (aacrao.org) also offer these types of transcript evaluation services.

Letters of Recommendation

Two letters of recommendation are required. Letters of recommendation must be in English, or accompanied by a certified English translation, and must be submitted with your LSAC CAS report.

Personal Statement

Applicants must submit a written statement discussing qualifications and intentions for pursuing a graduate degree from the College of Law.

Resume

A resume is a required component of a completed application. Please attach one to your electronic application. The resume is not a substitute for the personal statement.

Scholarship

Partial merit scholarships are available for highly qualified students entering the LLM program. All admitted LLM students will be automatically considered for merit scholarships, based on previous academic performance and professional experience. There is no separate application for scholarships.

Additional Requirements for International Applicants

Foreign nationals must meet additional requirements and demonstrate their English language proficiency to satisfy immigration policies. Read Willamette Law's English Proficiency Requirements here.

All appropriate documentation must be received and approved by the College of Law before the school will issue an I-20 (Application for Student Visa).
