Transfer/Visiting Applicants
Willamette University College of Law welcomes transfer and visiting students from ABA-accredited law schools. Guidelines for admission to Willamette as a second-year transfer or visiting student are detailed below.
When to Apply
Applications are due April 1 of the enrollment year.
How to Apply
Transfer or visiting student applicants should use the standard application for admission and indicate status as either transfer or visiting students in the appropriate section on the application. Admission is based largely on the strength of the applicant’s law school grades and class rank, as well as the reasons for the decision to continue legal education at the College of Law.

A candidate may choose to apply through any of the following methods.
Online
Please note that the online application via Willamette's website has been removed. If you have not yet applied to Willamette, we recommend going directly to the LSAC web site (see "LSDAS Electronic Application" link below). If you have previously begun an application using Willamette's online web site and have not completed and submitted your application, please click on the "Continue an Existing JD Application". LSDAS Electronic Application
The Law School Admission Council (LSAC), maintains an approved electronic-format application to Willamette’s College of Law. The following link will take you directly to LSAC Willamette University College of Law Application .
Postal Mail
Apply by submitting a paper application. The application can be downloaded in PDF format (below), or an application can be obtained from the College of Law at 503-370-6282 or law-admission@willamette.edu.

Application Materials & Requirements
Document from Current Law School
Candidates are required to submit an official document from their current law school confirming that they are “in good standing” and “eligible to return” as well as indicate current class rank.
Letters of Recommendation
Candidates should submit two original, signed letters of recommendation, including one written by a professor from the law school the applicant is currently attending. Note: These letters can be sent directly to Willamette. Transfer or visiting student applicants do not need to use the LSDAS Letter of Recommendation service.
Personal Statement
Applicants should submit a personal statement that explains the reasons they are seeking admission to Willamette as a transfer student or visiting student.
Law School Transcript
An official law school transcript that provides year-end grades is required and should be sent directly from the Registrar’s Office at the applicant’s law school.
Note: Transfer students may be admitted on a conditional basis with strong mid-year grades and supporting documents (personal statement, recommendations and statement of good standing). A student who maintains or increases the mid-year performance may be granted full admission after final year end grades are received by the Office of Admission.
Undergraduate Transcript
An official copy of the applicant’s undergraduate transcript from the undergraduate degree-granting institution should be sent to the Office of Admission.
LSDAS Report
An official copy of the applicant’s LSDAS report should be sent to the Office of Admission. A photocopy is not acceptable. For more information, contact the LSAC.
