Center for Dispute Resolution
Oregon Dispute Resolution Conference
In April 2009, the Willamette Center for Dispute Resolution hosted the inaugural Oregon Dispute Resolution Conference Honoring Bryan M. Johnston. The goal of this conference was to increase productive collaboration between the many members of Oregon's dispute resolution community and to honor Bryan M. Johnston, a skilled negotiator and administrator who cared deeply about mediation, education and human services.
Johnston was a remarkable man, and he improved the state of Oregon in a variety of significant ways. Many people knew him as a successful mediator and lawyer; however, his reach extended far beyond dispute resolution. At various times he was also a law professor, interim president of Willamette University, dean of Willamette’s Atkinson Graduate School of Management, a two-term Oregon State Representative, and interim director of the Oregon Department of Human Services Children, Adults and Families Division.
As befits a conference honoring Johnston, the first annual meeting of the conference brought together practitioners and educators involved in different aspects of dispute resolution to discuss ways in which individuals and organizations can work together to improve the lives of all Oregonians. The schedule of events consisted of updates from groups actively involved in dispute resolution in Oregon and opportunities for participants to network and explore key interests and areas for collaboration.
The 2010 spring Oregon Dispute Resolution Conference is scheduled for Saturday, April 17, 2010. Look for emerging details at http://jawdrop.shutterfly.com/.
