Paul Diller is an assistant professor of law at Willamette University, where he has taught since 2005. He also was a visiting professor at the University of Michigan Law School in 2008. Diller’s research focuses on local government and national security law. In both fields, Professor Diller’s scholarship has analyzed the relationship between legal doctrine and the legislative process. Since 2005, Professor Diller has taught, among other courses, Property, State and Local Government, Civil Procedure, and a National Security Law seminar.
Diller graduated magna cum laude from the University of Michigan Law School in 2001, where he was an articles editor of the Michigan Law Review, a Clarence Darrow Scholar and a winner of the Henry M. Campbell Moot Court Competition. Diller received his undergraduate degrees in economics and applied science, magna cum laude, in 1996 from the University of Pennsylvania. In 2001–02, Diller served as a law clerk to Chief Judge Edward R. Becker of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit in Philadelphia. Following his clerkship, Diller practiced law for three years in Washington, D.C., as a trial attorney in the Federal Programs Branch of the Civil Division of the U.S. Department of Justice. Diller is a licensed member of the New York and New Jersey bars.
