College of Law to graduate 125 students
The College of Law will award 123 JDs and two LLMs at the school’s 126th commencement and hooding ceremony for the Class of 2012, which will be held Sunday, May 13. Included in the ceremony will be students who graduated last December.
The commencement speaker will be retired California Supreme Court Justice Carlos R. Moreno. A graduate of Yale and Stanford Law School, Moreno is a former U.S. District Court judge and a judge on the Superior Court of Los Angeles County. While on the California Supreme Court, he authored several notable opinions, including ones that affirmed the right of lesbians to be parents and determined that the state’s anti-discrimination law barred businesses from treating registered domestic partners differently from married couples. In 2009, President Obama considered appointing Moreno to the U.S. Supreme Court seat eventually filled by Sonia Sotomayor.
Commencement will begin at 11:30 on the University quad. Tickets are not required, and there is no limit on the number of guests students may bring. A reception at the College of Law will follow the ceremony.
For those unable to attend, a live stream of the event will be available at this link: willamette.edu/events/commencement/law/stream/ and will begin at approximately 11:25 PM PST. To order a DVD, please visit www.gradmemory.com.
