Oregon Area Jewish Committee Honors Henry Hewitt JD’69
Henry Hewitt, a partner at Stoel Rives, was honored for professional excellence and contributions to the legal community by the Oregon Area Jewish Committee, which recently gave Hewitt its Judge Learned Hand award for lifetime achievement.
Hewitt, who has led the Business Services Practice Group at Stoel Rives and served as chair of the firm, also has served as principal legal advisor to the boards of Tektronix, PacifiCorp, Fred Meyer, Electro Scientific Industries and Medford Corporation. He also has received public service and leadership awards from the Oregon State Bar. Hewitt was chair of the Oregon Transportation Commission and is a Life Trustee Emeriti of Willamette University.
At a luncheon honoring Hewitt, Rick Wills, former CEO of Tektronix, said Hewitt’s mentorship was invaluable. “He knew the ins and outs of the founders and the people who’d come before me,” he said. “Henry’s involvement has been priceless.”
Oregon Supreme Court Justice Rives Kistler was the keynote speaker at the luncheon. Hewitt hired Kistler as a summer associate, Kistler said, and took all the summer associates on a hike on Mt. Hood.
“As I grew older, I realized Henry was always there to catch us,” Kistler said. “He has always been there to help us and assist us and be a good friend.”
The Learned Hand award honors recipients who embody Hand’s values of the right of the individual and the importance of democratic values. Past recipients include former Oregon Supreme Court Chief Justice Paul De Muniz JD’75.
